VFD Is Seeking ₦20 Billion. Where Could the Money Move After Investors Pay?
DA-X34 · Finance · By David Adeniji ·
VFD Group has opened a ₦20 billion commercial paper issuance for short-term funding and working-capital requirements. The DA-X question is what happens when capital-market money enters a diversified investment group.

Another ₦20 billion is being sought from Nigeria’s capital market.
VFD Group Plc has opened a ₦20 billion Commercial Paper issuance under its ₦50 billion programme for short-term working capital and funding. The offer closes September 4.
But where could the money move?
VFD has interests across finance, technology, real estate, hospitality, infrastructure and energy. The liquidity could support operations across its portfolio.
The first beneficiaries are issuing houses, advisers, trustees and professionals administering the debt. If funds reach portfolio companies, the trail could extend to technology providers, property businesses, energy projects, vendors and employees.
There is a lesson. Companies with strong governance, credible records, ratings and investor confidence can raise working capital through commercial paper instead of relying only on bank loans.
But capital is not cheap. VFD’s 270-day paper carries an implied yield of 21.50%, while its 364-day paper offers 23.50%. Every naira must justify that cost.
That creates a human-capital hinge. Treasury managers, analysts, accountants and business leaders must ensure the liquidity creates value before repayment. Cash-flow forecasting, corporate finance and capital-allocation skills become more valuable.
Because the offer remains open, ₦20 billion has not yet been raised. Watch how much is subscribed, where VFD deploys it and who sits downstream.
